- Red Light Therapy (PhotoBiomodulation) -

We practice whole body Red Light Therapy according to the required patient protocol using the Thor Laser System (a professional grade device).  We have successfully treated numerous conditions with this technology.

What is PhotoBiomodulation (Red Light) Therapy?

This therapy is the application of red and near infra-red light to the area of the body needing healing stimulation or pain management.

Our Thor system is considered the pillar of the cold laser/PhotoBiomodulation market because of Thor's dedication to delivering the OPTIMUM power to each area of the body using calibrated emitters and accurate protocols.

  • Thor lasers can stimulate healing and inhibit pain. By treating different parts of the body with energy in the form of light we can both stimulate the healing of an injury and reduce pain.

  • Digital Protocol Library:  Treatment protocols were created by installing a measuring device deep into the tissue and then treating the area with a master emitter. Once the optimum energy density is measured, this is recorded as a protocol that allows any calibrated emitter to get the exact same results.

  • Precision Emitters: Thor emitters are calibrated to deliver exactly what the protocol calls for, such as delivering 4 joules at a depth of 2 inches over a 1 minute interval.  They are annually recalibrated to maintain accuracy.

Is PhotoBiomodulation a New Therapy?

No. It was initially conceived by NASA and Harvard Medical School as early as 1967.  The initial equipment was first manufactured in 1987.  Since then Thor started manufacturing equipment and made this available to the end user.  The equipment is in over 70 countries in the world.  What is new is the name.  Initially called LLLT or Cold Laser Therapy the name was changed to PhotoBiomodulation because many of the knock-off equipment produced did not deliver on promises.  This is why we are happy to have the Thor equipment which delivers results.

Until the past 10 years the medical community did not recognize this type of therapy.  Now it is in many oncology units around the world as an effective treatment for side effects of cancer treatments such as oral mucositis.

A complementary company of Thor, LumiThera is delivering equipment to be used in Optometrist and Opthamologist offices for the treatment of Dry Macular Degeneration.  This uses the Thor LED probe technology.

How Many PhotoBiomodulation Treatments Might I Need?

Most patients require up to ten (10) treatment sessions of 60 minute duration.  Chronic conditions may require maintenance treatments which may be administered once or twice a week or as determined by your condition; follow-up appointment interval will be determined by consultation.  Our 60 minute sessions also include non-invasive stem cell stimulation which can boost the treatment protocol results as much as four times.

Do Technicians Administer the Treatments?

Yes. At our Wellness Centre, our Therapists are trained in the technique and will administer your PhotoBiomodulation treatments.  There a science and there is also an art to the PBM treatments.  Our Therapists have combined, over 20 years of training and real life experience, and are uniquely skilled to treat our patients based on the protocols created by the Professional Team.  We also have access to a medical doctor should we need a protocol adjusted or developed based on your needs.

Do I Need a Doctor’s Referral?

No.  A referral is not necessary but they are always welcome.  We enjoy working with your physician or other designated health provider in order to ensure your complete confidence and peace of mind.

Does the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan Pay for the Treatment?

No.  Your extended health care private insurance plan may provide full or partial coverage but may require your Doctor’s written referral first.  Interested patients will need to check with their private insurance to determine the specific coverage eligibility and requirements. Of course, we will help you as best we can to ensure you get the information you need.

Are Appointments Available?

Yes.  Call us today at 403-526-2463 for your initial assessment and evaluation and let our modern treatments and old-fashioned care help you wake up to pain free living! We offer a package of 10 treatments plus 1 complementary in order for you to gain the benefit of this therapy.  Because this therapy stimulates your own body to heal itself we highly recommend your treatment to follow the protocol (selected based on the help you need) frequency set out by the professionals.

Your First Treament?

Your first treatment is the most important one of all.  It tells us; - How bad is the affected region? - How many treatments will likely be required to resolve the condition.  Are other regions/structures involved?

We also take the time to educate you where possible as to why you developed the condition(s) and how to avoid repeating the condition.
